Former Palau president to speak on Compact at UOG
The 91快播鈥檚 and the will be hosting a lecture with Former President Johnson Toribiong of Palau. The talk will begin at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 15, at the 91快播 in the CLASS Lecture Hall.
Toribiong served as president of Palau from 2009鈥2013, during which period he negotiated the renewal of Palau鈥檚 Compact of Free Association with the United States. He is a prominent attorney with a juris doctorate from the University of Washington, a former senator, and a former ambassador to Taiwan.
鈥淎s the discussion of self-determination becomes more prominent for the island of Guam, the experiences that our neighboring islands have endured, as well as their negotiation process with the United States, is an area that we can all benefit from when choosing our autonomy,鈥 said Arun R. Swamy, associate professor of political science and coordinator of the Political Science Program at UOG.
