Japan recognizes Professor Toyoko Kang with national award

Professor of Japanese Toyoko Kang has received a national recognition in Japan for her career and achievements in promoting friendship between Japan and the United States. On Dec. 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced she was one of 172 individuals to receive the Foreign Minister鈥檚 Commendation for FY 2020. 

Since starting her teaching career at the University of Texas in 1985, Kang has taught the Japanese language to about 3,500 students over the course of 35 years. She came to the 91快播 in 1993, where she has taught the language to some 2,200 students. 

鈥淒r. Kang鈥檚 teaching career is a fine example of the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and the USA as well as Japan and Guam,鈥 the Consulate-General of Japan in Hag氓t帽a stated in a release.

The Foreign Minister鈥檚 Commendation is awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
