UOG gallery to display 55 creative works by GDOE students through Art-a-Thon

The Isla Center for the Arts at the 91快播 announces the 25th Annual Art-a-Thon Exhibition with the theme 鈥淧reserving Our Home: Sustainability in Art.鈥�
The opening reception for the exhibit will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, at House No. 15, Dean鈥檚 Circle, on campus at UOG. The exhibit will continue through Feb. 23, 2024.
The exhibit is open to the public and free of charge.
The exhibit will showcase 55 works selected from the artwork of 314 students from 17 Guam Department of Education Schools who participated in this school year鈥檚 Art-a-Thon.
Students from elementary, middle, and high schools produced these impressive works using a variety of media including crayons, pastels, colored pencils, ink, collage, mixed media, pastels, markers, watercolor, ink, acrylics, and cardboard, said Dr. Velma Jean Yamashita, Associate Professor of Art, and Coordinator at Isla Center for the Arts.
This year鈥檚 Art-a-Thon is unique in several ways. Due to the island鈥檚 continuing recovery from Typhoon Mawar, the pledging component of the Art-a-Thon was not included this year. This year鈥檚 focus is solely on the production of artwork and the promotion of artistic expression. This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淧reserving Our Home: Sustainability in Art.鈥�
The Isla Center for the Arts worked with Guam Green Growth (G3) Circular Economy Makerspace & Innovation Hub, located in Chamorro Village in Hag氓t帽a, to create unique frames using pallet wood and exhibition posters for the featured works of art.
This project is sponsored by the UOG College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and Matson.
Gallery hours are Monday to Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
