鈥淭APESTRIES OF RESILIENCE: SECURING OUR ISLAND COMMUNITIES鈥

This year鈥檚 theme, "Tapestries of Resilience: Securing Our Island Communities," will explore how island communities tackle challenges like food security, climate change, cultural preservation, and economic inequality. Dr. Mary Therese Perez Hattori, Director of the Pacific Islands Development Program at the East-West Center, will discuss these topics in her presentation.

Plants! Local produce! Food samples! Drone demos! Browse 30+ booths at this year's Land Grant Festival, and discover all the ways we can live better from our land -- from the plants we grow, to the foods that keep us healthy, to practices and technologies that can help us protect the environment.


UOG DRONE CORPS FLIGHT DEMONSTRATIONS

10am and 1pm (weather permitting)

Watch as the UOG Drone Corps conducts a drone flight demonstration. Learn about the rules of flying drones in Guam and about the different types of drones available. 


Chinese dragon dance performance

11am and 1:30pm

Visiting faculty from Taiwan with the Chinese Learning Program will present a special dragon dance performance at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the ALS Courtyard. 


TUG -o-WAR and FACE PAINTING WITH ARMY ROTC

LIVESTOCK EXHIBITION: PIGS, DUCKS, & CHICKS

Starting at 9am

Come observe some live animals that are commonly raised as livestock in Guam, courtesy of the 骋耻氓丑补苍 Livestock Producers Cooperative, and learn important tips about providing them the best care in Guam's climate. 


PAWS & LEARN ABOUT PET CARE WITH GAIN

8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Pets on site: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

Meet some dogs available for adoption at GAIN, and learn about responsible pet care, including the importance of spaying and neutering pets. 


VR Experience: Smart Agriculture Technology

What is a Land Grant institution, anyway? Learn all about it and UOG's three-fold Land Grant mission of instruction, research, and extension in our Land Grant Hallway.


CNAS AQUAPARK TOUR

Come tour the CNAS Aquapark and learn why aquaponics systems -- both backyard and commercial -- are a smart solution for Guam's food security and environment. Then come over to the ALS Bldg. lab to check out our tilapia fish tanks

SOIL LAB TOURS

9am, 10am, 11am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm

PAX: 20 per session

What's in your soil, and why does it matter? Find out in the UOG Soil Lab, where you can see soil-testing equipment in action testing for pH, chemical elements, organic matter percentage, electrical conductivity, and texture analysis.

POMOLOGY, PHYSIOLOGY, AND NEMATOLOGY LAB EXPERIENCE

9am, 10am, 11am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm (Duration: 45 minutes)

PAX: 20 per session

Get an up-close look at live nematodes (microscopic worms) and their eggs in this first-time Nematology & Pomology Lab Experience at UOG Charter Day! Land Grant nematologist Dr. Richard Singh and his research interns will demonstrate how to extract nematodes from soil samples and how to stain them for viewing on a microscope slide. He will also share how fruit trees respond to nematodes and other stress factors.

HORTICULTURE LAB & GPEPP LAB TOUR

9am, 10am, 11am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm (Duration: 45 minutes)

PAX: 20 per session

Get a brief introduction to plant genetic analysis, plant biochemistry, and the lab technologies used, and test your knowledge with a KAHOOTS quiz and matching game! Also watch some every day phenomena take place at a microscopic level.

GUAM PLANT EXTINCTION PREVENTION PROGRAM (GPEPP) NURSERY TOUR

9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m. 
Starting Point: (at the building entrance stairs)

Take a walk-through tour of the Guam Plant Extinction Prevention Program Nursery under UOG's Land Grant! Learn from the research team about their efforts to prevent the extinction of various plant species by protecting wild populations, preserving their genes, and reintroducing plants to their natural habitat.

MATH JEOPARDY + CHESS CHALLENGE!

Come challenge our Math and Computer Science faculty, UOG students, and your friends in some Math Jeopardy or a pickup round of chess! Plus, learn more about math and computer science as an exciting academic and career path.

Try out some software programs designed by UOG students! These include a Tic-Tac-Toe game, a WhatsApp emergency message transmission program, hotel and employee management software, and A.I. software that can predict the chloride concentration of groundwater!

Peer into UOG's plant collections from decades past, and find out how these collections are used by scientists in the region and around the world.

HIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY TITRATION COMPETITION

Come quietly observe on the sidelines of UOG's Chemistry Labs as high school student teams compete in a three-hour chemistry titration experiment. Awards will be presented for Best Individual, Best Team, and Best Laboratory Skill.

The UOG Biological Sciences and UOG SACNAS clubs will host this interactive specimen exhibit featuring microscope slides, preserved specimens, and live specimens! Additionally, children will have the chance to draw their own species and have their drawings featured on social media!

Explore the complexities of anatomy, including the human skeletal structure and the incredible way that organs work together to support life, in this exhibit hosted by the UOG Premedical Chapter of the American Medical Student Association.

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER TOUR

Take a tour of the School of Health's Learning Resource Center (LRC), the first fully simulated birthing lab in Micronesia equipped with hospital beds, equipment, and supplies to simulate the hospital environment. Visitors will get to tour the facility, observe our full-body simulation manikins come to life, and watch our nursing students conduct health assessment demos with stethoscopes, reflex hammers, and more!


SOCIAL WORK STUDENT ALLIANCE WELLNESS ACTIVITY AND INFO BOOTH
